En 1993 Lenny Kravitz publicó uno se sus mejores álbumes: "Are You Gonna Go My Way". La canción que da título al disco, una superpotente descarga roquera, al mejor estilo de Jimmy Hendrix, sonó en la radio colombiana. Este álbum tiene grandes canciones en las cuales Lenny Krzvitz canta sobre diversos temas, recurrentes en sus canciones, como el amor o las mujeres, y en especial sobre la libertad y el ser humano en canciones como "Believe", "Heaven Help" y "Eleutheria".

Canciones que escuché en busca de consuelo y con insistencia en las calurosas tierras del Magdalena Medio en aquel nefasto año 1993 en el que fui obligado, por obra y gracia de las represoras leyes colombianas, a prestar servicio militar y viví todos los horrores que se viven en esa institución putrefacta y corrompida llamada Ejército de Colombia (leyes represoras para gente del pueblo como yo, porque, por supuesto, los hijos de los políticos y empresarios, de la corrompida élite colombiana, no prestan servicio militar - ¿acaso prestó servicio militar el H.P narcoparacopresidente de Colombia Alvaro Uribe?, ¿o sus hijos?, ¿o los hijos de ese pícaro pseudoempresario (de aquellos que las pérdidas se las paga el estado y las ganancias se las echa al bolsillo, y quien, según Salvatore Mancuso, sugirió a los paracos que se dedicaran a traficar para meterle dinero a la guerra y expresó todo su apoyo por parte de los germios y empresarios), Sabas Pretelt?, ¿o los Santos? etc, etc, etc.). En fin, un asco, como todo lo que tiene que ver con Uribe y los uribistas.
Asco que sentí cada día de mi vida durante aquellos meses de servicio militar, en plena época de Pablo Escobar, a quien el Ejército de Colombia cuidaba y protegia por allá por el Magdalena Medio. Nos mandaban a hacer retenes para desviar a cualquier sospechoso de estar buscando a Escobar, que algunas veces se apareció por allí y daba plata al comandante de pelotón o al comandante de escuadra. Otros compañeros realizaron misiones especiales, de civil, que consistían en asesinar gente de la U.P., o de algún sindicato, gente incómoda para el Ejército o los narcos. A muchos nos tocaba mirar y callar, ya se sabía que si alguien decía algo al día siguiente aparecería como "suicidado", como pasó con tres soldados de mi compañía (uno de ellos estaba en mi escuadra). Y mientras eso sucedía, Pablo Escobar mandaba poner bombas en mi amada Bogotá, como la que puso en el Centro 93. Que ironía que hoy en día uno de sus socios, Alvaro Uribe Vélez, esté en la presidencia. Finalmente los narcos se salieron con la suya.
Así era. Cada noche, calurosa y húmedas noches en el Magdalena Medio, mi refugio era el walk man, el cassette con las canciones de "Are You Gonna Go My Way", de las cuales la que más levantaba mi espíritu era ésta: Believe.
